Our Top 10 iPhone Secret Features
Your iPhone has a lot of secret features you probably don’t know about. Did you know that there’s a hidden map of everywhere you’ve been on your phone?Or even a feature that makes your apps disappear before you hand over your phone to another person? Take a look at 10 iPhone secret features that will make you become an iPhone power user.
#1 Charge it faster!
There’s a way to speed up the charging process of your iPhone. And it’s simpler than you think. All you have to do is to hit the Airplane mode button. Why? Because the flight mode blocks the phone’s access to wifi data and other communication options that drain the battery while it’s powering up.
#2 How long did that coffee break take?
This one is a bit creepy. Head to Settings > Privacy > Location Services > System Services > Frequent Locations to discover where have you been lately and even how long you spent in each place. This is only one of the features that reveal how much data your iPhone is gathering on you. Yes, the Big Brother is watching.
#3 Lock Off Apps when you hand your phone
You don’t dig into the Accessibility features much, do you? There’s actually quite a few great features there. One of them is the Guided Access – perfect for those moments when you hand your phone over to your child or a stranger. Enable this feature under Settings > General > Accessibility > Guided Access and choose which apps you want to restrict the access to. Next time someone asks to borrow your phone to make a call, you already know what to do.
#4 Background music to sleep
What about listening to some soft music before sleep? You obviously don’t want to let your Spotify playlist going on forever (even because you might wake up at 3 am in the morning with some unwanted tunes). Go to the Clock app and tap the Timer Options. You’ll see an option called “When the Time Ends”, then choose the “Stop Playing” option and as soon as the timer goes off, the music will stop playing automatically.
#5 Sorry! I don’t have signal!
It happened to all of us… You’re in the middle of an important call and then suddenly you don’t have signal anymore. If you type *3001#12345#* and tap “call” to launch the hidden Field Mode tool. You’ll see a screen with a numerical-based indicator of signal. If you see a number like -120, you’ll most likely not be able to do a call or send an SMS. Just keep following the numbers to find better signal locations.
#6 Screen Recording
This one is perfect for those moments when you have to help dad changing a phone setting. Go to Settings > Control Center > Customise Controls, and add “Screen Recording” to the “Include” list. After that, you can try out right away by swiping up the screen and pressing the record icon.
#7 Emergency
We truly hope you never need it, but it’s always good to know just in case. If you press the side button five times in a row while the phone is locked, you activate the emergency mode. The phone will emit a siren sound and dial the emergency number automatically. The most important thing is that after the call ends your iPhone sends your current location to your Emergency contacts on the phone.
#8 One-handed keyboard
There’s a feature people couldn’t stop talking about when the new iPhone came out… The one-handed keyboard mode can be activated when you hold the globe or the emoji icon on the keyboard. If you select the one with an arrow pointing to the right, the keyboard will shift to the right. Select the one pointing to the left, and it’ll go left. The result will be a keyboard closer in size to the one on the iPhone 7. Cool, right?
#9 Miss the home button?
Some people just simply cannot stay without the home button. If you go to Assistive Touch (Settings > General > Accessibility > Physical & Motor > Assistive Touch), you’ll be able to configure a floating button to behave exactly like the old one. Alternatively, you can also set up a menu that will show actions including the Notifications Central and Control Centre.
#10 Have you used your Animojis for videos too?
This one is exclusive to the lucky ones that purchased the latest iPhone X! You can create custom animated messages, aka as Animoji, with your facial expressions! All you have to do is tap on the App Store icon when you are inside of a message and click on the monkey icon. You’ll be able to choose between different animojis and then hold the red record icon for a video or tap on the Animoji to send a photo. So, how many of these tricks were new to you?
